Configure Outlook Express
Outlook Express is a free e-mail client that comes with most Windows computers prior to Vista.
- Open Outlook Express
If this is the first time you've started Outlook Express it will launch you directly into the setup wizard. Select "e-mail account" and click next. Otherwise, select Tools > Accounts then select the Mail tab and click the Add button and select Mail.

- Your Name
Enter your name as you would like it to appear in the From field in your outgoing messages.

- Address
Enter you e-mail address.

- Servers
Make sure "POP" is selected for incoming server type and enter pop.[your domain] for the incoming server and smtp.[your domain] for the outgoing server where [your domain] is the part that appears after the @ sign in your e-mail address. (For example, if your e-mail address is kelly@mgemaine.com you would enter pop.mgemaine.com and smtp.mgemaine.com respectively).

- Logon
Enter your account (user name) and password. Your user name is the portion of your e-mail address that comes before the @ sign and should be entered by the wizard by default. (For example, kelly is the username for the e-mail address kelly@mgemaine.com).

- Finish
Simply click the finish button.

In order to prevent our mail servers from being used by spammers we require all connections for outgoing e-mail to be authenticated with your user name and password. Without SMTP authentication you will be able to receive e-mail but not send. The following steps show how to enable SMTP authentication.
- Account Settings
To enable SMTP authentication, select the "Tools" menu then "Accounts..." then select the mail tab and you will be presented with the following window. Select the e-mail account you just added and click the Properties button.

- Enable SMTP Authentication
Click the servers tab and at the bottom check the box next to "My server requires authentication."
